Through My Own Eyes is a way of thinking about photography and seeing through constructs of lens, glass and objectification. Locally produced glass is used as an objective in picturing regions or elements of the of the glass’s production.

For me it’s a kind of prototype gesture. An ecstatic imagining system. The lens is birthed in this place. So the ideas of origin source, birth even the optical equivalent of a terroir is instrumental in the image. In the way a shout echos and returns the in a mountain valley, these images try to gain the return of the glass, glass which laboures to see or see where itself was made.

The lens is performing a kind of joy.. of seeing itself.

The ecstatic forms through the distortion of the image. This is a kind of liberation and is bound up in the ideas of origins and awakening. It’s not merely a romantic hipster digital post effect. More of an attainment to alchemically bind values of place and awakening joy. The process seeks to close its part [ place, lens, distortion, image, affect ] in a loop. Suggesting a kind of interiority. In the way a shout echoes and returns the in a mountain valley, these images try to gain the return of the glass, glass which is laboured to see or where itself was made. The lens is performing a kind of joy.. of seeing itself.

Journal images of London and Cologne for 2017 set up the mood for these works. Although the origins lay way back in an un-realised class project in 2013.
